The Wedding Decisions That Actually Matter (And The Ones That Truly Don’t)

When it comes to wedding planning, deciding what actually matters and what really doesn't, is essential to keeping your sanity. Not only will planning what matters de-stress you, but it will also save you time and money that every bride and groom need extra amounts of. Keep reading to learn which things regarding your wedding you need to actually be focusing on.

The Decisions That Actually Matter

During your wedding planning experience, being able to decrease the amount of things your planning is really a saving grace. There are certain things during a wedding that are so important and should not be overlooked, and here are those things:

1. Your Photographer

Having a good photographer means being able to look at, cherish, and love your photos forever. Photos from a wedding are looked at not just by the bride and groom, but by the families and all of the guests. Making sure your photos are top notch is probably one of the most important aspects of a wedding.

Another reason a good photographer is important during wedding planning is because if there's bad lighting or bad editing, that means permanent regret that you can't take back and can't redo. There are a lot of places in weddings you can cut corners, but I would not suggest your wedding photographer to be one of those places.

2. Lighting

This goes right along with having a good photographer and photos, and that is to make sure you have good lighting. Having good lighting at your wedding means beautiful photos, videos, and vibe. The lighting really matters and here are some things to add to your wedding to make sure that lighting isn't overlooked:

  • Candles

  • Warm string lights

  • Outdoor lighting

  • Dimmers

  • No harsh overhead fluorescents

  • Natural lighting

  • Sunsets

When it comes down to it, lighting matters more than you think it does. Don't cheap out on good lighting otherwise the regret will come after the wedding.

3. The Music

One of the most important parts of having a good, fun wedding is to have a good music. If you spend less on a DJ, band, singer, etc, you will in turn be decreasing the chances of having good music at your wedding, which nobody wants. Here are some things that a DJ, band, etc would be responsible for at your wedding:

  • Ceremony songs

  • Cocktail hour playlist

  • Dance floor flow

  • First dances

Music brings memories, and making sure the music at your wedding is great is a must and we suggest you put a lot of your planning focus on the music at your ceremony.

4. Guest Comfort

A wedding planning aspect that most people don't think about at all is the comfort of their guests. Making sure your guests are comfortable and can enjoy the wedding is important because it shows your guests you care about them. Here are ways you can make sure your guests are comfortable during the wedding:

  • Enough seating

  • Not making people stand in heat for 45 minutes

  • Good weather

  • Good food

  • Clear signage

  • Bathroom accessibility

  • Good music

Your guests are one of the main reasons you are having a reception, to enjoy spending time with those who love you and to thank your guests for the gifts they got you. Making sure your guests are well taken care of, means that they will have a memorable wedding that they will talk about for years to come.

5. Timeline Breathing Room

This next one is so important and often overlooked. Making sure the wedding day schedule has plenty of time left for taking breaks and breathing is so essential to a calm, enjoyable wedding day. Doing this will allow the bride, groom, guests, and family, to take breaks and not have too much of an overpacked schedule. If you have events planned throughout the day, it will cause everyone to get tired and stressed, which the last things you want on your wedding day. Here are the three most important things to schedule time for on your wedding day:

  • Time to eat

  • Time to sit

  • Time to exist

Please make sure you are scheduling time for the important things at your wedding! We know you won't regret it.

6. The Person You’re Marrying

This one is a little obvious, but the individual you are marrying is the most important out of all of these. Making sure they are happy and well taken care during your wedding is so important and we hope you prioritize yours and their happiness on your big day!

The Decisions That Truly Don’t Matter (As Much As You Think)

This is where we talk about the good stuff...or really the bad stuff. In this section, we are going to discuss the things you don't really need to be worrying about and planning at your wedding. Overthinking and planning every single detail can lead to stress and decision fatigue. Keep reading to learn what things you can put on the back burner during your wedding planning.

1. Chair Style

No one has ever left a wedding where they are talking and obsessing over the chair style at your wedding. Nobody is thinking or looking your chairs, instead they are looking at the bride and groom and focusing on your beautiful love story.

Try not to focus too much on the chairs because we promise, nobody is focussing on them that much.

2. Custom Cocktail Stirrers

Cute? Yes.
Necessary? No.

This is something that is just a very very small detail that nobody is going to be focussing on. They might think it's cute, but you shouldn't spend extra time and money to have little cocktail stirrers at your wedding.

3. Perfectly Matching Bridesmaids Dresses

Something I wish I didn't focus as much on during my own wedding was perfectly matching bridesmaid dresses. The dresses all turned out great and I shouldn't have let any stress come from the idea that the dresses might not look good together.

The most important part of bridesmaids dresses is that your bridesmaids are comfortable and feel beautiful. Try not to focus too much on getting your bridesmaids dresses to look perfect together.

4. Filming TikTok Moments

Something that can feel a bit forced is making TikToks at your wedding. You should have fun and record special moments from your wedding, even if it's on TikTok, but you shouldn't center and schedule your entire day off of making TikTok videos. This will make it so you aren't living in the moment. Consider having someone be your TikTok bridesmaid and have them be in charge of filming those moments so you can sit back and enjoy your special day!

5. Overly Complicated Signage

Don't worry too much about signage throughout your wedding that tells guests where to go and what to do. Your guests will be able to figure it out and can assume as they follow other people. So don't worry too much about spending money on and planning signage, and instead put your focus on the bigger, more important aspects of your wedding.

6. The “Right” Shade of White

A lot of bride's will worry about making sure they use the "right" shade of white for their wedding, and making sure it's all uniform throughout the wedding. You don't really need to be worried about this and should be focusing on other things. Guests will not be worried about the shades of white throughout the wedding, so don't spend too much time worrying about that!

7. Whether Your Wedding Is “Trendy”

Something I really don't want you worrying about on your wedding day is if your wedding is "trendy" or not. Trends can be fun and exciting, but they aren't what really matters. What does matter is emotions, feelings, and marrying the love of your life. Focus less on the trendy things and instead on your day being special for you and your soon to be spouse.

Conclusion:

Now that we've gone over all the things you should be caring about and all the things you shouldn't be focusing on during your wedding, you should be able to go out and plan the best wedding you can have! Just focus on the things that you and your spouse care about and don't spend so much time planning little details that you forget to enjoy the wedding planning experience. You will never get to experience another wedding planning experience like this so make sure to savor every moment and enjoy the time with your fiancé.
